A photograph of Mary S. Estill with the bronze bust of her father Harry F. Estill. Sculpted after Harry F. Estill’s death in 1942, this bust was another culmination of the generosity of Sam Houston Teachers College alumni. The project was first proposed in 1942, but was postponed due to World War II. In 1947, the project was revived with estimates of the bust costing $20,000 to $25,000 (approximately $302,560 to $378,200 in 2026). Within three years, the money was collected, and on November 11th, 1950, the bust was unveiled in a ceremony at Old Main. | Source: Mary Sexton Estill with bust of her father, Harry F. Estill.
