In 1936, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) transformed a log pond into a picturesque 45 acre lake and built a recreation area surrounding the lake. Hurricane Ike did a lot of damage to the Ratcliff Lake Recreation Area in 2008, followed by a drought three years later.
