The Johnson vs. Jeffries bout was nicknamed The Fight of the Century. It was Jeffries' attempt to recapture the title from Johnson and to prove the dominance of the white man in the sport of boxing. Jeffries was to be The Great White Hope for white Americans. Johnson easily defeated Jeffries, often taunting and laughing at him.
