Johnson - Jeffries fight 1910

Jack Johnson defended his title in 1910 against James Jeffries. The match was called The Fight of the Century and was supposed to give Jeffries a chance to be The Great White Hope to defeat Johnson and regain the honor of the white man. Jeffries was soundly defeated. Teddy Roosevelt called for the ban of the recording and declared a prohibition of viewing prize fights, claiming it would encourage gambling. Most believe that it was the fear of instigating more race riots.
