General Manuel de Mier y Teran : The Fredonian Rebellion alarmed the Mexican government to such an extent that immediate action was deemed necessary. Consequently, General Manuel de Mier y Teran was dispatched with orders to make a detailed survey of Texas and report his findings. Teran was a soldier, scientist, and intellectual who was also prone to ill-health and depression.
