The Mallards were part of an independent league that played in North Dakota and Canada. The integrated league offered opportunities to play for former Negro League and Latino players unable to move up to the newly integrated major leagues. The Minot Mallards traveled to Texas to play multiple teams, including the Diboll Dragons.
