The Dick Dowling Statue in Herman Park, Houston was the city's first public monument. This memorial was erected even before the statue of Sam Houston. Dowling settled in Houston in the early 1850s, succeeding in various business ventures which included a saloon, a liquor-importing firm, and interest in a bank. Dedicated on St. Patrick's Day, 1905, the monument is an eight-foot marble statue of Dowling atop a twenty-foot marble base. It was created by German sculptor Frank Teich. | Creator: David Matheson | Source: http://www.texasesacapes.com/Houston/Dick-Dowling-Statue-Houston-TexasDownload Original File
