A lifelong soldier, John B. Magruder served in the United States army for over 30 years before joining the Confederacy following the secession of his home state of Virginia. Magruder's performance in the early days of the war was exceptional as his men stopped an early Union advance on Richmond at the Battle of Big Bethel. He later served in Galveston where he defeated a Union blockade of the city at the Second Battle of Galveston. | Creator: Chris Grant | Date: June 17, 2015 | Source: Civil War research engine at Dickinson College, hd.housedivided.dickinson.eduDownload Original File
