This liberty transport ship was named in honor of Morris Sheppard. The senator, who died in 1941, was also honored with his name attached to Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX. As a member of the Senate Military Affairs Committee, Sheppard worked for increased military spending and especially for the advancement of what would become the U.S. Air Force in a time when military aviation was not considered viable. | Source: http://www.armed-guard.comDownload Original File
