The Former Cumberland Presbyterian Church pictured with the First Presbyterian Church

This image from the 1899 book, Sam Houston Normal Institute and Historic Huntsville Through a Camera, shows the two earliest Presbyterian churches in the city. The first, the former Cumberland Presbyterian Church, is here referred to as the First Christian Church, since the building had been transferred to that congregation in 1871. The second building, the First Presbyterian Church, is the structure that was constructed for that congregation in 1856 and torn down in 1899. | Source: Sam Houston State University Archives
